Spinning
When teaching a beginner to spin I always start with processing and carding, then a simple Mayan spindle. This allows a student time to understand the process involved and what to do with their hands to create yarn.
Once mastered over a couple of sessions, students can move onto the wheel, co-ordinating hands, eyes and feet. From here you can advance on to different plying and art yarn techniques.
Weaving
We have a variety of looms which you could learn to weave on, from tapestry, Inkle and peg, through to an 8 shaft table loom and a floor standing rug loom. the variety of fabrics possible range from rag rugs to table runners, bags, bookmarks and art. I can help, teach and advise you with your own projects.
Commissions
I have recently created some yarn, commissioned for embroidery in a bespoke kilt which is being made by Acme Attelier. The yarn has been made using beautiful, long stapled Icelandic wool from the pet sheep belonging to the recipient of the kilt.
I am happy to undertake commissions in any of the textile disciplines which I teach in such as Batik, Natural Dyeing, Botanical Printing, Spinning, Weaving or Rag Rugging.
